Alan Wake
Alan Wake is a psychological action thriller game being developed by Remedy and published by Microsoft Game Studios for the Xbox 360. It was announced at E3 2005, and debuted with few pictures and a simple trailer. Due to the little amount of information that has been released since then, many had been left to wonder if the game was ever going to be released, or if it had been canned altogether. On July 20th, 2008, after 3 years of no shows at E3, an official contest was announced claiming that a lucky fan could have their face featured in a scene in the game. The ad for the contest also stated that the lucky winner would be taken to the October 2008 Tokyo Game Show to 'be on the scene and be on the screen!', leading many to believe that new media and information would be available. A Remedy spokesperson later clarified claiming that the promotional contest had already taken place during the 2007 TGS. During Microsoft's Press Briefing before E3 2009, the 360 version of the title was confirmed for a Spring 2010 release, while the release window of a PC version remains unannounced.
More Information
After his dreams turn into a best selling book, Alan Wake finds that his fiance has disappeared. With his inspiration and dreams gone, the insomnia begins to kick in. Alan decides to head to the quaint town of Bright Falls, Washington to attend a sleep clinic, in hopes that his dreams will return to him. After he meets a woman that looks strangely like his fiance, the dreams he had wanted back become nightmares. Alan begins to write a book based on these nightmares. Slowly, the town begins transforming into something eerily similar to the new, nightmarish book. Alan Wake is forced to fight through this town, hoping to understand what is happening.
In addition to the games gorgeous graphics, the game is said to feature a very realistic weather system. An early tech demo of the game showed a Remedy developer drastically altering the surroundings at the touch of the button, including calling in a tornado to wreak havoc on a small motel. The game will also feature an environment that changes based on the players actions as they progress through the story. Additionally, the game will focus heavily on a light vs dark theme, with Alan's flashlight playing a big role. The game is also said to feature a sizable open-world town and mountainous area for players to explore.
